Gregory Effinger

Artistic Journeys

Born and raised in Steamboat Springs, CO, Gregory Effinger was artistic at a very young age. He spent hours a day drawing and coloring. He used clay to sculpt and gradually was discovered in Middle School by Mrs. Shively who began to teach Greg real art techniques including watercolor, pointillism, pen and ink and pottery. By the time Greg reached High School, he already had a portfolio of work.

In High School Greg studied under Richard Galusha who was just becoming a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. Greg learned Oil Painting, Airbrush, and Photorealism while earning Art Student of the year all four years of High School.

Greg left the valley in 1992 to attend college at the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied fine art and commercial illustration under Gene Hoffman. Greg attended additional art classes and competed in competitions in Fort Collins, at Colorado State University and in Boulder at CU. In 1998, he returned to Steamboat Springs with a degree from UNC, and began showing artwork at Wild Horse Gallery in 1999.

Greg opened Creative Bearings, Inc. in Steamboat Springs in 1998. At Creative Bearings Greg worked as Art Director for numerous artists working in Graphic Design, website development and screen printing. Greg runs Creative Bearings to this day.

Greg married his wife Lucy in February of 2000 and spent a year in Mexico Plein Air Painting all over the state of Puebla, MX. They had their first of three kiddos in 2001. Their oldest, Diego just shipped off to Ohio for College. The other two, Paula and Pedro are finishing up as upperclassmen in the same High School Greg went to decades earlier.

Greg got his Private Pilot License in 2017 and uses his membership with Steamboat Springs Flying Club to utilize any one of three planes to fly to destinations all over the rockies for painting and scoping out new gallery representation.
